Adult Sunday School

Ministry: Adult Sunday School

Purpose: To provide a biblical based study and discussion to apply to everyday living.

Method: Small group setting in Sunday School class

Responsibilities:
Challenge class members to grow in their faith and walk with God.
Develop relationships with class members.
Provide a safe place for sharing.
Pray for class members and teachers.

Annual Goals:
Encourage class attendance.
Make learning of scripture fun.
Building relationships.
Increase Sunday School attendance.

Long-term Agenda/Dreams:
Provide training for teachers.
Provide an atmosphere for persons outside the church family to attend and participate in class.

 

Boys and Girls Club (grades 3-5)

Ministry: Boys and Girls Club (Grades 3-5)

Purpose: To foster friendship and spiritual nurturing within the group.

Method: Have group meetings every other month.

Responsibilities: Appoint two adult persons to give leadership to the ministry.  Provide fun activities and service projects for the group.

Annual Goals: To increase the size of the group by inviting friends.  To create unity and friendship within the group.

Long-term Agenda/Dreams:

 

Greeters

Ministry: Greeters

Purpose: To provide an air of welcoming to newcomers entering the church and give direction.  Put members and guests at ease as they prepare to worship.

Responsibilities: To greet guests, give directions and brochures while establish a beginning relationship.  Stand at both entry doors in couples preferably.

Method: Greet incoming members by name and with a cheerful countenance.  Get names of guests and direct to auditorium.

Annual Goals: Maintain qualified greeters on an ongoing basis.

Long-term Agenda/Dreams: Provide adequate training to willing greeters and be open to any changes that would enhance this activity.

 

Jr. Youth Group (6-8)

Ministry: Jr. Youth Group (Grades 6-8)

Purpose: To build relationships with their peers and leaders and to be challenged to grow and express their spirituality.

Method: Monthly group meeting.  Participating in Wednesday evening sessions.

Responsibilities: (for leaders) To adults give leadership to the ministry.  Plan monthly fun and service projects for the group.  Provide one extended time together per year (e.g. campout)

Annual Goals: Develop more intentional spiritual input.  Increase size of the group by inviting friends.

Long-term Agenda/Dreams: Involve 8th graders in leadership.  Setup a mission trip that each child will have the opportunity to participate once in their tenure in Jr. Youth Group.

 

Karen's Place

Karen's Place - a coffee shop in the church basement, 7:30 PM on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays (except during summer)

Karen's Place exists to bring the message of hope and encouragement through the Gospel of Jesus Christ to Believers and nonbelievers alike.  Our goal is to share with the community around us that the Christian life-style can be fun and exciting.  By providing an atmosphere that is pleasant and non threatening, music and word that is uplifting and encouraging, the message of hope and salvation through Jesus Christ can be shared.

 

Library

Ministry: Library Ministry

Purpose: To provide good reading for the congregation that promotes Christian ideals.  Provide books to develop a closer relationship to Christ.   Provide other materials to further spiritual growth in the members.

Method: Librarian assisted by library committee members.  Provide regular entry for church newsletter, and maintain bulletin board.  Review books in a church service when possible.

Responsibilities: Evaluate the needs of the congregation, purchase and process books, videos and other materials, and promote the library.

Annual Goals: Purchase and process new materials; meet as a committee on a regular basis; weed (remove unused books) when necessary; and suggest ways people can donate books.  Plan one function a year that will draw people to the library.

Long-term Agenda/Dreams: Rearrange the library and continue to update materials and add materials as suggested by the Pastor and leadership.  Move to a larger and more accessible room.

 

Morning Out for Friends & Neighbors

Ministry: Morning Out for Friends & Neighbors

Purpose:

To connect mothers and others for mutual support in a Christian atmosphere.

Method:

Offer various topics and crafts for 10-12 sessions on a Wednesday morning in the fall and winter, providing child care for those with pre-school age children.

Responsibilities:

Team from church provides:

  • Coordinator - Ensure each duty is covered, assist with set-up, publicity, and offer inspiration sigh-up sheet
  • Child care - Recruit volunteers to provide child care for infant to kindergarten age.
  • Hostess - Provide coffee and put out snack sign-ups
  • Greeter - Offer welcome at entrance, assisting guests in finding child care, etc
  • Program - Plan topics and crafts for each session

Annual Goals:
To get new tables & chairs
To increase average attendance by 10%
To have an evening event for Morning Out & church families (i.e. gym night)
To provide an evening of free babysitting.

Long-term Agenda/Dreams:
Develop a full time child care center/preschool.
Develop a network to work with other morning out programs.
Have a monthly drop-off time for free baby-sitting.
Set up phone contact with participant s for follow-up.

 

Nursery

Ministry: Nursery

Purpose: To promote worship by offering excellent childcare.

Responsibilities: To evaluate how we can best improve childcare environment and care giving.

Method: Room available for mothers/fathers to care for infants next to sanctuary.  Toddlers through four year olds in room next to Sunday School area staffed by assigned care givers.

Annual Goals:
Have care-givers be aware of being more visitor friendly.
Have care-givers reliably arrive 15 minutes prior to service.
Have safe environment for children.

Long-term Agenda/Dreams:
Move nursery to brighter, larger area.
Have care givers volunteer for longer periods of time for more continuity.
Have a check-in method for greater security for visitors.

 

Primary Sunday School

Ministry: Primary Sunday School (Children's Ministry)

Purpose: To instill within each child a desire for knowing and understanding the Bible.

Method: Class room setting where biblical teaching and memorization of scripture is done.

Responsibilities:
Oversees the Primary Sunday School program, age 2 through grade 8.
Make up class list for the year.
Select staffing for each class.
Orders material for each quarter and have available for teachers.
Lead in the opening each Sunday with combined group (offering, singing, visitors, and birthdays.)
Select an offering project for the quarter.
Keep attendance and offering records.
Gather teachers boxes at the end of each quarter and verify that all material has been returned.
Present each child with a Christmas gifts from the Sunday School.
Keep supply room stocked and orderly.

Annual Goals:
That children commit their life to Christ.
To re-evaluate the things being done and their purpose (e.g. birthdays, offering, memory work, etc.)

Long-term Agenda/Dreams: Update department to serve children better.

 

Sound System

Ministry: Sound System

Purpose: To promote worship by enabling each worshiper to hear every spoken word.

Method: To utilize our present system to full capacity.

Responsibilities: To evaluate who and how the sound system can be best engaged.

Annual Goals: To better project sounds from worship team; both voice and instruments.

Long-term Agenda/Dreams: To have volunteers eager and capable to capture best sounds of both speaking and music.

 

Sr. Youth Group (9-12)

Ministry: Sr. Youth Group (Grades 9-12)

Purpose: To build relationships with peers and leaders.  To experience fun and service activities along with spiritual nurturing.

Method: Bible studies.  Monthly fun activities.  Service projects.  Fund raisers to help fund service projects.

Responsibilities: (for leaders) Work with the group in planning monthly activities.  Oversee group activities.

Annual Goals: Assist youth to grow in spiritual maturity.  Encourage and involve youth in leadership responsibilities.  Increase the size of the group by inviting unchurched friends.

Long-term Agenda/Dreams: Would like to see a post 'youth group' develop.

 

Summer Vacation Bible School

Ministry:
Summer Vacation Bible School

Purpose:
Introduce and promote Jesus and his teachings to our surrounding community.

Method:
By using Christian materials during one week during the summer, DMC constructs a children's program to teach bible stories, and songs that stay with them the rest of their lives.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinator - Oversee the whole program and coordinates with other team members to help accomplish the program.
  • Registration - Maintain and updates the computerized class list.  Coordinates with teachers on the class size.  May need to call families to confirm if attending bible school.
  • Advertisement and Recruitment - Advertise bible school event to church and community.  Place ad in church bulletin and make announcements.  Place ad in local newspaper.  Make signs to place in church and outside the church property.
  • Setup and cleanup - Help with setting up rooms by moving tables and chairs.  Help with putting fence up and taking it down.
  • Food/Snack - Coordinates with the teachers what food they need for their class.  Handles the Friday evening program party.

Annual Goals:

Increase enrollment.  Increase church members participation by 50%.  Have 4 team members.  Have all positions filled.

Long-term Agenda/Dreams:

Have a youth pastor in a paid position to run summer program.

 

Sunday School Secretary

Ministry: Sunday School Secretary

Purpose: To keep records of attendance for church and Sunday School for historical and tracking purposes.

Method: Counting church attendance.  Gathering adult and primary Sunday School attendance.

Responsibilities:
Counting church attendance
Gathering adult and primary Sunday School attendance.
Record attendance in book provided.
Update attendance and offering on the board in the back foyer.
Ring bell for the ending of the Sunday School period.
Ordering of all Sunday School material and periodicals.
Distribute periodicals in mailboxes.
Create annual report.

Annual Goals: Better communication and earlier planning for types of classes so material can be ordered.  (Material orders are placed one quarter in advance.)

Long-term Agenda/Dreams:

 

Sunday School Shepherd

Ministry: Sunday School Shepherd

Purpose: To provide guidance in the functioning of one Sunday School class.

Method: Sunday School class setting.

Responsibilities: Opening the class period.  Arrange for teachers.  Help class choose curriculum.  Ask class members to plan outside activities.

Annual Goals: Build relationships for the purpose of friendship and accountability.  Provide an atmosphere for sharing needs and concerns.

Long-term Agenda/Dreams:

 

Ushers

Ministry: Ushers

Purpose: To serve all attendees of our services.  To see that people coming to our services are welcomed and made to feel comfortable.

Method: Being welcoming; offer a handshake and smile.  Being aware of surroundings and needs of persons, and offering help when needed.

Responsibilities: To greet and offer persons bulletins, programs, or other materials pertaining to church life.  Offer an awareness of our facilities, restrooms, nursery, etc.  Opening doors for people.

Annual Goals: Try to always improve, to encourage all ushers to have a strong commitment to carry out all responsibilities.

Long-term Agenda/Dreams: Offer training or require a training class or session for both old and new ushers.  Combine training with related greeter ministry.

 

Video System

Ministry: Video System

Purpose: To promote worship in a comfortable and flowing style.

Method: Video projection system.

Responsibilities: To project announcements, songs, etc., by way of the video projection system.

Annual Goals: To have technically gifted people take responsibility.

Long-term Agenda/Dreams:
To use the video system in different ways (such as: to illustrate sermons, different backgrounds for different themes)
To engage people who are willing to explore and spend time preparing for and using the present system to it's fullest capacity.

 

Worship Planning

Ministry: Worship Planning

Purpose: To facilitate an encounter with God for members and worship seekers.

Method: Sunday morning worship service.  Sunday evening Prayer and Praise service.  Special studies (i.e. 40 day adventure)

Responsibilities: To continually evaluate how we can best provide an environment for worship.

Annual Goals: Have a second service during the Sunday School Hour.

Long-term Agenda/Dreams: To have each attendee ready to "Take Risks With and For Christ".  To have gatherings that are seeker friendly.  To have such exciting happenings that the surrounding community will "come and see".

 

Worship Team

Ministry: Worship Team

Purpose: The purpose of the worship team is to lead an assembly of participants into a focused time of praise and worship toward God, and for God.

Method: Various styles of music and song relating to a theme.

Responsibilities:
To give vocal and instrumental leadership to the congregation.
To be a reflection of inward growth that models to the congregation an authentic, unquenchable heart of worship.
To invite the gathered assembly to enter into the presence of God.
To keep up with new and fresh worship music and styles that can be added to our repertoire of music.

Annual Goals:
To have prepared hearts and attitudes every time we gather that will glorify God.
To improve the quality of our vocal tone, and balance between instruments and vocals.
To include another male voice to our team.
To set up a rotating schedule so as to not burn out the team members who are currently involved.
To add a bass guitar player.

Long-term Agenda/Dreams: To have more than one worship team.
